Farewell To Guild Wars and Hello To Guild Wars 2
So far this event is in the embryonic stage, (very little has been prepared and thought about) but I am here to mainly claim the idea and let other people see this so that they may help else say goodbye to the old and hello to the new. Everyone is welcome to join in and help and please tell your friends so this well be a event that we will forever leave our mark on Guild Wars.
But this event will pretty much just the Guild Wars community saying good bye Guild Wars and saying hello to Guild Wars 2.

I had alot of discussion with people on this topic....
I don't wanna say "goodbye" to Guild Wars 1. I will be most likely popping back on it once in a while as people will still be participating in the original game
I do want to say that a Guild Wars 2 Community Launch Party is most definitely in order....

There are no goodbyes for GW1. I probably won't play GW1 for the first 2 or 3 months but I will pop in and work on my account till I think I have done all I can or want to do.

I just want to quote this because I'm one of the people that Barbie discussed with and that I agree with her.
There is no goodbye to GW1 until the servers are taken down. Which won't happen with GW2's release.

I agree with all of you. Me personally I will be coming back to Guild Wars. But I think I can confidentially say that most people currently playing Guild Wars will stop when Guild Wars 2 comes out and switch to that. And I'm not all that surprised when you two said you would continue playing since you are both community legends.

I think this is premature. I do think the GW1 will take a huge hit when GW2 comes out, but I don't think it will be time to say farewell. In another 5, 6, 10 years when the servers are shutting down, sure - one last finale! (I've even had dreams where I attended such parties actually.. very sad :/ )
But at this point I don't think it's farewell, it's just going to become another game in the repertoire.

I think I can confidently disagree with you. I've seen a lot of people in game say how they're either not buying GW2 or will continue to play GW1 (if for nothing other than festivals).
Also, me continuing with GW1 has nothing to do with having held events. In fact, this MantleCon will be the last one I host and fund. Though I may aid other events as a trivia fella or some such - and I shall be doing such for the event that barbie has been talking with folks about.
But yeah, there's no farewell, not for the few or the many.
Name of the thread aside, I suggest that event hosts get together for a meeting. Barbie seems to be the mastermind of things when I talked to her about it.

Me personally cant wait for Guildwars 2 to come out.
But i wont say farewell to Guildwars, before they actually shut it down.
I will still go on my account, and still play the game.
I have spend too many hours, and had too much fun, just to let guildwars go.
But with that said, i think its an awesome idea, to give Guildwars 2 a big warm welcome.
And i will support that 100 %
So Im also in for a meeting btw

Indeed, I think a GW2 welcome is more in order, with a GW1 farewell many years off.
That said, there are some very loose plans for a GW2 welcome, the only issue being that we don't know a release date, so we can't really do much planning until we know the release and more about the game world (where to host it, when to start making plans and so forth).

I think of you more as a scorpion or perhaps even a tarantula... but a mere spider? HA, not nearly descriptive enough my dear!

It's not a mere spider.
It's a spider-shaped brain-cyber-demon-thingie-of-hell.
Plus it was a joke for the lulz. If you looked at what the thing was, you'd get that it was a mastermind.
I think comparing you to something which commands hordes of demons is a compliment. Then again, I'm odd.
